SIXTEENTH REGULAR COMMON COUNCIL MEETING FOR THE 2019-2020 COUNCIL YEAR

Council accepted the resignation of Scott Matula the Architectural Review Board.
Council approved the appointment Kay Hill to the Housing Authority.
Council elected Thomas Hawe to serve the unexpired term of Ray Haen on the Board of Water Commissioners.
Mayor Vandersteen recognized City Sustainability Officer Chad Pelishek for his work to see the City of Sheboygan achieve the designation of SolSmart Bronze. This designation recognizes the City of Sheboygan for taking steps to make the process of going solar faster, easier, and cheaper for residents and businesses to add solar to their buildings. SolSmart is a national designation program recognizing cities that foster the development of mature local solar markets.
Mayor Vandersteen noted several events:
- The 3rd Annual Holiday Lights Hunger Run/Walk is Saturday, November 23 at Evergreen Park.
- The 8th year of the Making Spirits Bright Drive-Through Holiday Lights Show will begin daily the day after Thanksgiving on November 29 through December 31, 2019 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm except for Christmas Eve, December 24.
- Shoreline Metro will be providing FREE bus rides all day on Black Friday. Metered parking in all Business Districts is FREE on Black Friday, November 29.
- On Sunday, December 1 at 5:00 pm in Downtown Sheboygan, the Sheboygan Jaycees present the 27th annual Holiday Parade sponsored by Meijer! The theme is “Candy Factory”.
- As the Department of Planning and Development embarks on updating the City’s Five Year Consolidated Plan for the Community Development Block Grant Program, we ask that you take a brief survey about the city’s community and housing needs. Input received will be incorporated into the final plan for 2020-2024.
- I wish all Sheboygan residents Happy Thanksgiving!
- Please note that City of Sheboygan offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in observance of Thanksgiving. There will be no bus service on Thanksgiving Day.
- Everyone is welcome to a FREE turkey dinner from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day at Immaculate Conception Parish Hall, 2722 Henry Street. Take outs are also available.
Council approved Resolution No. 109-19-20 demanding Union Pacific Railroad repair three at-grade railroad crossings located at 4200 South Taylor Drive, the intersection of S. 12th and Greenfield Avenue, and 1700 New Jersey Avenue in the City of Sheboygan in accordance with Wis. Stat. § 86-12. In the event that the Union Pacific Railroad fails to repair the three crossings within 30 days after delivery of this Resolution as designated by Wis. Stat. § 190.03 directs City staff to petition the the Office of the Commissioner of Railroads to conduct an investigation and order a repair of these crossings in the City of Sheboygan.
Council approved Resolution No. 111-19-20 authorizing an emergency repair of the sidewalk along the shoreline of Lake Michigan just to the South of South Pier, where the high lake levels and storms have undermined the earth under the sidewalk along the lakeshore.
Council approved Resolution No. 112-19-20 authorizing a contract for the remodeling of the Men’s and Women’s bathroom facilities at the Municipal Service Building.
Council approved Ordinance No. 34-19-20 amending Gen. Ord. No. 83-11-12, in order to change the Polling location for Ward 24 from the Senior Activity Center to Bethany Church.
