Sheboygan, Wisconsin – January 13, 2025 –The City of Sheboygan announces the upcoming retirement of Police Chief Christopher Domagalski, who will conclude his distinguished career with the city on January 20, 2025. Chief Domagalski has served as the leader of the Sheboygan Police Department for 15 years, providing steadfast leadership, innovative strategies, and unwavering dedication to the community since taking office on January 18, 2010.
Chief Domagalski joined the Sheboygan Police Department with extensive experience from his 18-year tenure with the Milwaukee Police Department. During his time in Milwaukee, he served in a variety of roles, including Police Officer, Detective, Lieutenant of Detectives, and Captain of Police. His final position was as Commanding Officer of the Third District, where he oversaw police services for a culturally diverse population of approximately 100,000 residents. Under his leadership, the district achieved city-leading crime reduction rates.
In Sheboygan, Chief Domagalski has been instrumental in transforming the department into a model of community-based, neighborhood-focused, and preventive policing. Under his guidance, the department of 118 employees has embraced a data-driven approach to problem-solving and fostered collaborative relationships with residents and local organizations.
Chief Domagalski’s commitment to professional development and education has been a hallmark of his career. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Management of Criminal Justice from Concordia University Wisconsin. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Leadership in Police Organizations program, and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police.
Throughout his career, Chief Domagalski has been an active member of esteemed professional organizations, including the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police, Wisconsin Police Executive Group, Police Executive Research Forum, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Locally, he has contributed as a Board Member of the Sheboygan Transit Commission, Samaritans Hand, and The Abode, and he served as the Past Board Chair of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board. These roles exemplify his dedication to serving the community both in and out of uniform.

As Chief Domagalski prepares for retirement, he looks forward to spending more time with his family, including his wife and five children, and exploring new opportunities.
The City of Sheboygan is proud to announce a special celebration to honor Chief Christopher Domagalski’s remarkable years of dedicated service to the community. Chief Domagalski will be formally recognized with a proclamation during the Twenty-First Regular Common Council Meeting on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 6:00 PM.
The community is warmly invited to join this momentous occasion by attending a gathering at City Hall starting at 5:00 PM in the Council Chambers, located on the third floor of 828 Center Avenue. Guests will have the opportunity to share in refreshments and cake as we celebrate Chief Domagalski’s legacy of leadership, innovation, and commitment to public safety.
As part of the transition process, the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners will announce their decision regarding the new Chief of Police on January 13, 2025, during a special meeting scheduled for 4:00 PM. The City of Sheboygan will provide updates following this announcement.
