I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Sheboygan residents a Merry Christmas. I pray that you enjoy time together with family and friends, and we all share our talents, time, and wealth with those in need. Just as gifts are exchanged around the Christmas Tree, I would like to say thanks for the many gifts that were exchanged in our community over the last year that continue to make Sheboygan the best place to live.
The City of Sheboygan is working with several community groups that have Christmas projects for the benefit of the community. One of the longstanding events is the Sheboygan Jaycees Holiday Parade that took place on Sunday, November 25. This was the 26th year that the Jaycees have celebrated the arrival of Santa Claus in Downtown Sheboygan. If you missed the parade or want to relive the magic — watch the video from WSCS.
The Christmas trees at the Mead Library fountain have been decorated for the Christmas season by the city with assistance from the Sheboygan Squared Business District and Brilliant Lightscapes. The lights on the evergreen trees surrounding the fountain have been connected to a computer system that will make them dance to the holiday music. Music will be heard on a speaker system and a low power FM signal at 87.7, that can be picked up on your car radio as you drive by on 8th Street.
At Evergreen Park the city is working with the Sheboygan County Rotary clubs for their 7th annual “Making Spirits Bright” lights display. This year many of the past favorite displays return along with more new spectacular presentations. Entering Evergreen Park will only be allowed from the north on Calumet Drive, turning right into the park entrance. The light display in Evergreen Park is open 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm from November 23 through December 31 (except December 24). Admission is free of charge, donations of cash and non-perishable food items for the Sheboygan County Food Bank are encouraged. The food collection goal this year is 85,000 pounds. There are indoor activities at the Jaycee Quarryview Center (3401 Calumet Drive) on weekends (Thursday-Sunday) 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm from November 23 through December 23.
Shoreline Metro runs a Jingle Bus tour to Evergreen Park every Tuesday and Thursday evening leaving the Transfer Station (on Pennsylvania Avenue) at 6:00 and 7:00 pm on December 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, and 20. The route includes stops at Mead Public Library for the tree display and Evergreen Park for Making Spirits Bright. The fare for the Jingle Bus is one non-perishable food item per person.
I hope that everyone is able to enjoy these Sheboygan Christmas traditions and wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
