The City of Sheboygan will close city facilities to the public, effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Exceptions to the closure include election-related activities and public appointments with city staff. Status of the closure will be evaluated on a weekly basis or until conditions allow for reopening.
According to Darrell Hofland, City Administrator, “The short-term closures of these facilities will help mitigate the possible spread of this disease in hope of avoiding a more serious emergency.”
Fire and Police Departments
The Fire Department and Police Department will continue to provide emergency services to the community during this period. All public visits to the departments will be conducted by appointment only. Please call the non-emergency business phone numbers for scheduling.
City Services
Essential city services including garbage and recycling collection will continue during this period. All city staff will remain working at their regular work sites or remotely. City staff will practice social distancing by keeping 6 feet or more of separation between themselves and customers, and between co-workers.

Shoreline Metro and Metro Connection Services
Services provided by Shoreline Metro and Metro Connection will continue but may be subject to change. Please visit shorelinemetro.com for updated information on possible service changes.
City of Sheboygan/Village of Kohler Municipal Court
The City of Sheboygan/Village of Kohler Municipal Court has canceled all court appearances and pretrial conferences until May. Rescheduled dates will be sent via mail. Call 920-459-0212 or email municipalcourtdept@sheboyganwi.gov with questions or concerns.
Mead Public Library
Mead Public Library is closed to the public effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Please visit www.meadpl.org and their Facebook page for updated information on continued services to the public during this period.
City Public Park Buildings
All city public park buildings are closed including restrooms for the next 60 days. All rentals during this period will be canceled and refunds will be via check and sent in the mail.
Payments
In addition to mailing payments by check, options include online payments or use of the drop boxes located on N. 9th Street adjacent to City Hall and at the Police Department.
Building Inspection
While City Hall is closed to the public, the Building Inspection Department remains open and in business answering phones and handling transactions via mail, email, and fax. Read this notice for more information.
Public Meeting Status
The next regularly scheduled Common Council meeting is set for Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 6:00 pm at City Hall. The city is encouraging the general public to consider foregoing in-person attendance in favor of viewing the live meeting on the WSCS channel and recorded meetings on their YouTube channel. Status of meetings can be found on www.sheboyganwi.gov.
Other public committee meetings are being reviewed by committee chairs for possible cancellation. The March 23 Architectural Review Board and March 24 City Plan Commission are still scheduled to meet in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Absentee Voting: April 7, 2020, Spring Election And Presidential Preference Vote
The City Clerk’s Office will remain open in City Hall for in-person absentee voting beginning Wednesday, March 18 and continuing through Friday, April 3. The hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with extended hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday, April 3.
Requesting an Absentee Ballot by Mail: Electors can request a ballot be mailed to their home address by visiting myvote.wi.gov/en-us/VoteAbsentee. A photo identification may be required with your application. Electors can visit bringit.wi.gov for information on photo identification. The deadline for requesting a ballot by mail is 5:00 pm on April 2, 2020.
Registering to Vote: Wednesday, March 18, 2020, is the deadline for voters to register to vote by mail or online myvote.wi.gov for the Presidential Preference Primary and Spring Election. After this date, voters must register in-person in the City Clerk’s Office or at the polling place on Election Day. According to state law, mailed voter registration forms must be postmarked no later than the third Wednesday before the election. Online registration closes at 11:59 pm the same day.
