Our staffing levels as of January 1, 2020 are between 17 to 22 personnel for fire/rescue emergency operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A general rule of staffing for firefighters working the 24-hour shifts is that they work a 56 hour work week to ensure maximum coverage in a cost effective manner. 69 of our 73 sworn fire personnel are assigned to 24-hour shifts for immediate emergency response. That equates to over 95% of our sworn personnel working in the field 24/7 to provide fire/rescue/EMS services to city residents. In addition to having fire/rescue/EMS responsibilities, the remaining sworn personnel are assigned to a combination of administrative, command, organizational, and supervisory functions. There are also two civilian employees: one administrative coordinator and one part-time administrative assistant.
