Sheboygan, Wisconsin – August 16, 2024 – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Warning for East Central Sheboygan County following a heavy thunderstorm this afternoon. The warning, which was issued shortly after 3:30 PM, remains in effect until 5:30 PM. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.5 inches have been reported, and flash flooding is currently underway.
The advisory highlights the areas of Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Oostburg, and Kohler as being particularly at risk. Potential impacts include flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other locations with poor drainage or low-lying terrain.
The City of Sheboygan is urging residents to exercise extreme caution. Several roads have already been closed, and barricades are in place to protect the public. Residents are reminded not to remove barricades or attempt to drive through flooded areas, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
While some surface flooding may begin to recede, additional rain is expected. Please remain alert and prepare for potential rerouting if traveling.
