This year the City of Sheboygan purchased a new asphalt paving machine and asphalt roller. The model of the paving machine is a Bomag CR352L Paver with a Carson EZiV Screed and the model of the asphalt roller is a Bomag BW138AD. This paving machine and asphalt roller are the ideal size to complete local residential streets as well as arterial streets such as Taylor Drive. This paver allows the Department of Public Works to increase the miles of streets that can be addressed each year and reduce the cost by doing more projects in house. The City is also able to purchase asphalt from the Sheboygan County Highway Department at a considerable discount to the open market.
This new equipment has been used by the City staff to resurface S. 17th Street from Oakland Avenue to Ashland Avenue, N. 10th Street from Superior Avenue to Geele Avenue, N. 12th Street from Superior Avenue to Geele Avenue, Ashland Avenue from 10th Street to 17th Street, North Avenue from 15th Street to the railroad crossing, and Wildwood Avenue. This week the crew from the DPW laid a new surface of asphalt over concrete on Broughton Drive from Michigan Avenue around North Point. After sewer work is finished on Michigan Avenue, they will also resurface Michigan Avenue from 4th Street to Broughton Drive.
I give the Department of Public Works a well-deserved ATTABOY for this new resurfacing program. Now that they have become comfortable working with this new equipment we can look forward to the program growing in the future.
