Eight Haiku for Autumn
By Lisa Vihos – Sheboygan Poet Laureate
Sun lights up the lake,
we walk through endless colors.
The dogs jump for joy.
My feet cut a path
through the weave of gold and brown.
The carpet whispers.
The world is singing:
wind soprano, geese alto
sky tenor, leaves bass
Childhood memories,
lingering in piles of leaves.
Jump! And jump again.
Late walk by the lake,
so much blue sparked by yellow,
true meaning of life.
At this time of year
please give me a sweater vest.
Give me cinnamon.
Such jewels, fall leaves.
You’d think the tree would keep them,
knows it must let go.
Wild geese form a V
over the church parking lot.
Like us, heading home.
