The City of Sheboygan is excited to announce the creation of a temporary Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) during the 2024 Mercury Racing Midwest Challenge, scheduled for August 9-11, 2024. This initiative, authorized by the Common Council through Ordinance 11-24-25 modified section 38-59 of the Sheboygan Municipal Code, aims to support local businesses and enhance the event experience for attendees.
About the DORA:
- Location: The DORA will encompass the South Pier district, as outlined in the attached “Temporary South Pier DORA District” map.
- Duration: The area will be active from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, beginning August 10th and concluding at 10:00 PM on August 11th.
- Permitted Activities: Within the DORA, individuals will be allowed to carry and consume intoxicating liquor and fermented malt beverages in designated areas, including sidewalks, closed roads, pedestrian paths, and grassy areas.
Guidelines and Restrictions:
- Patrons must be 21+ to purchase or consume alcohol.
- Stay inside the DORA boundaries. The consumption of alcohol outside of the DORA is strictly prohibited.
- All beverages must be served in unbreakable, transparent, or semi-transparent containers. Glass containers are not permitted.
- DORA beverages shall be purchased at participating liquor establishments.
- Dispose of cups in trash receptacles located throughout the event locations.
- No open containers allowed in parking lots.
- Alcohol consumption is prohibited on South Pier, Indiana Avenue right-of-way, parking lots, and private properties without permission.
- Finish your drink before entering another establishment.
- Safety laws are still enforced.
- The City retains the right to suspend or terminate the DORA if necessary for public safety or due to non-compliance with the resolution’s conditions.
- Enjoy DORA responsibly, be respectful of residents and businesses and never drink and drive.
